Biography

Sabyasachi Chakraborty is one of the most gifted actors hailing from Kolkata. He was born on Sept. 8, 1956. He passed his higher secondary with flying colors from Andrews College. “Benu”, as his parents used to call him, made his debut with Tapan Sinha’s “Antardhan”. His passion for wildlife photography and his harmony with nature is a well know trait of him. He earned his B.Sc degree from the prestigious Hansraj College of Delhi.

He has worked in a lot of TV shows as well. Benu got involved with the theatre group, Charbak. One of his most notable television series appearances is ‘Tero Parbon’, through which he shot to fame initially.

He has also directed a number of TV shows for children. His role as Feluda in ‘Jotokando Kathmandutei’, ‘Baksho Rahashya’, ‘Kailashey Kelenkari’ and ‘Tintorettor Jishu’ re-established the reminiscence of Satyajit Rai’s Feluda series.

In 2002 Chakraborty was awarded for his performance in ‘Ek Ke Aachhe Kanya’. The Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards felicitated him with the Best Actor award for his performance in ‘Bombaiyer Bombete’. As an actor, Chakraborty has received critical acclaims from various institutions. His portrayal of Feluda depicted his powerful talent on the silver screen, which was originally portrayed by Soumitra Chatterjee.
