Dr Shriram Lagoo is still regarded as one of the most successful veteran actors of the Indian film industry. Born on Nov. 16, 1927 at Maharashtra, Lagoo is well known for his character roles with over 100 Hindi films and about 40 plays in Marathi, Hindi and Gujarati lingo.
He is the eldest of the 4 siblings. Lagoo studied medicine at B.J. Medical College in Pune. During his college, he had started acting in plays. It is hard for anyone to recover from being bitten by the theatre bug and Lagoo is no exception. His association with dramatics sustained through the group ‘Progressive Dramatic Association’.
Lagoo practiced medicine in India and Tanzania during the 60s and turned into a full-fledged actor in the Marathi stage. He is best remembered for his role as the protagonist of the Marathi play ‘Natasamrat’ penned down by Kusumagraj.
Dr Lagoo is married to Deepa Lagoo, a noted theatre and television actress. He was bestowed with the ‘Punyabhushan’ Award on behalf of the organization ‘Tridal’. His article ‘Time to Retire God’ incited critical discussions in the print media owing to his conclusion that the perception of God is obsolete.
He was felicitated with the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for his role in the movie ‘Gharaonda’.
