Kollywood actor Navdeep was arrested for drunken and rash driving by the Hyderabad police on late Saturday night.

In a real life drama that could remind a scene from a typical Telugu film, Navdeep and his friends were chased on the streets of Hyderabad by the police before being arrested.

Director Seeman booked for attack on Jayaram's house

Chennai, February 7 -- The Chennai police have registered a case against the film director Seeman, who is also the leader of the ‘Nam Tamizhar Iyakkam’ group, in connection with the attack on the house of Tamil actor Jayaram.

Four more persons have been arrested, including Seeman’s brother James Peter on Saturday, in addition to the 8 people held on Friday soon after the attack.

Popular Kannada star Sudeep is enjoying every bit of shooting in Ram Gopal Varma's next movie "Rann" where he plays Amitabh Bachchan's son. He says sharing screen space with the superstar always charges him up.

"I cannot describe in words how happy I was when Ram Gopal Varma sir told me that I would be playing Jay Malik, an important character in 'Rann', and I would be working with a legendary actor like the Big B. I had never dreamt of anything like this," Sudeep told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

"To be seen in the same sequence with an actor like Amithabh Bachchan is itself a big bonus to me. I was always charged whenever I shot sequences with him," the star added.

Malayalam film industry deadlocked by trade unions

Two movie shoots have been disrupted by protests over the attitude of leading stars Mammootty and Dileep, scuffles have broken out and members of film units have even been arrested.

The tussle between two rival trade unions in the Malayalam film industry seems to have entered a deadlock and neither side is ready to give in.

Trouble has been brewing in the industry ever since the Malayalam Cine Technicians Association (MACTA) split vertically last year and a new powerful group called Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) was formed.

MACTA accuses Mammootty and Dileep of using their influence as leading actors in the industry and scuttling their projects and ensuring that its members do not get work.

Nishagandhi festival starts on 20th of January

Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate Kerala Tourism's dance and music festival 'Nishagandhi - 2009' at Kanakakkunnu Palace compound in Thiruvananthapuram on January 20.

The festival will last for seven days. Rajendra Gangani, a noted exponent of the Jaipur School of Kathak, is going to perform 'Ras Rang'. Geetha Chandran's Bharatnatyam 'Ekam Sat' and Guru Singhajit Singh's Manipuri will be staged on January 21. Ghazal singer Talat Aziz's music performance will be at Nishagandhi from 6.45 p.m. on January 22. Vinitha Nedungadi will present Mohiniyattom on January 23. It will be followed by the staging of Chhau dance by Shashadhar Acharya. The festival will also feature fusion music by Karaikudi Mani (Mridangam), V. Suresh (Ghatam), B.V. Balasai (flute), B.V.

Divakaran honoured with Kozhikodan Memorial Award

Malayalam writer R.V.M. Divakaran's 'Kadhayum Thirakkadhayum', a book on filmmaking, won the first Kozhikodan Memorial Award organized by the Kozhikodan Smaraka Samithi, a cultural forum, in memory of late film critic Appukkuttan Nair alias Kozhikodan.

The award, which is given to the best book on cinema in Malayalam, comprises of Rs. 10,000, sculpture and citation. Literary great M.T. Vasudevan Nair will present the award to the winner on the second death anniversary of Kozhikodan at Town Hall, Kozhikode on January 20. – Sampurn Media
