<strong>Mumbai, July 2:</strong> India’s oldest private general entertainment channel (GEC) Zee TV has won viewership crown after a long - long time.

For Week-26, that ended on June 30, Zee TV was first in the GEC chart with 243.1 GRPs, whereas COLORS was on second position with 242.8 GRPs and STAR Plus with 218.5 GRPs. STAR Plus and COLORS are the major competitors for Zee. Where COLORS is a new entertainment channel, STAR Plus is almost equally old as Zee TV.

Manish Borwal, a media expert said, "It's very pleasant to see Zee making a comeback. It was long overdue."

According to TAM ratings (Total available market) also, Zee TV is on the top. Zee leads the non-film programming with 212 GRPs as per TAM ratings. Latest COLORS could manage 203 GRP’s and STAR Plus 195 GRP’s.

Nitin Vaidya, COO, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd, and business head, Zee TV, said: "What's most pleasing is that Zee's performance is based on its non film content; hence we never felt compelled to attempt gimmicks like running break-free movies unlike others.

Shows like Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo, Pavitra Rishta and Choti Bahu are continuing to do well consistently."

Despite serial “Balika Badhu” from COLORS is gaining highest TRP ratings, Zee TV is viewer’s all time favourite. Zee has achieved 200+ GRPs on weekly basis constantly over a long period of time.

Harish Shreyan, managing partner, OMD, said, "True, one can spend bucks and buy big properties in film-programming but the real winner is the one that does well in non-film programming, as shown by Zee."

Now media and advertisers companies are also enjoying the competition. According to the Borwal this is the perfect situation for advertisers.
