The renowned cartoonist, who was not keeping well for a long time, died in his sleep at his residence in Loutolim, Goa on early Sunday. He was 85.
Famous for his cartoons capturing Goan culture, Miranda had published several books and also illustrated many children’s books in his career.
Meanwhile, a family source revealed that Miranda will be cremated on Monday, as he had revealed to his wife that he wished to be cremated and not buried after his death.
Confirming Mario’s funeral, Father Bolmax Pereira, priest of Saviour of the World Church at Loutolim village said that the funeral would be held at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow.
Celebrities mourn Miranda's death
Celebrities like director Shekhar Kapur, actor Anupam Kher, director Kunal Kohli, composer Ehsaan Noorani expressed their grief on Twitter.
Musican Ehsaan Noorani wrote, "RIP Son of Goa and catoonist Mario Miranda always loved your work always will .... icons are being recalled by the universe."

Governor of Maharashtra, Goa offers condolences
Expressing his condolence, Governor of Maharashtra and Goa Kateekal Sankaranarayanan told DNA, "Mario Miranda will go down in history as the best cartoonist and caricaturist who caught the essence of Mumbai and Goa.”
“He would portray the city of Mumbai in all its beauty, diversity and contradictions. It can be said that he drew Mumbai like none other did. His pictures would comment on the busy, noisy life of Mumbai, its buildings, its social life and its pomposity,” he added.
