The actor has been charged with carrying one gram of cocaine. This verdict came as a relief for the actor, who was earlier charged with carrying 10gm of cocaine. This would have meant a much longer sentence than the 6 months in jail he may now have to face.
The case
The case dates back to the year 2001, when the Bollywood star was caught outside a Mumbai restaurant, allegedly possessing a large amount of cocaine.
Drug peddlars, Nasir Karim Sheikh and Tony Hector Gomes, who were arrested with Khan, face a much serious offence, and hence more severe charges, which could be anything between one to 10 years in prison, and a fine, which may go up to Rs One Lakh.
The actor, who had always maintained that he was attempting to buy only a gram of cocaine, as against the 10 gm he was accused of carrying, was obviously relieved on hearing the sentence.
“It is something we have been appealing in the court for the last 10 years. The court has framed charges for attempting to buy 1gm. I am happy”, Fardeen was quoted as saying.
