After hearing about the sudden demise of the singer, Bollywood was completely shocked and upset, and some of them immediately tweeted about the legendary maestro on the micro-blogging site, Twitter.
B-town actors, filmmakers and singers, who paid their condolences on Twitter included Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh Shreya Ghoshal, Neha Dhupia, Shekhar Kapur, Diya Mirza, Anupam Kher, Swanand Kirkire, Vishal Dadlani, Kailash Kher, Sophie Choudhry, Aftab Shivdasani and Rahul Bose.
Lata Mangeshkar paid homage on Twitter
But among these celebs, it was the renowned and respected playback singer of our country, Lata Mangeshkar, who first tweeted about Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.
"Shastriya sangeet ke mahan gayak bharat ratna. pandit bhimsen joshi ji,aaj humare beech nahi rahe,wo ek mahan gayak to the hi,per usse bhi bade wo insan the,wo mujhe beti mante the,aksar unse milna hota tha,main bahot bhagyawan hu ki maine unke saath ek bhajano ko record bhi kiya tha,unke saath gate hue main bahot darr gayi thi,par unhone mujhe sambhal liya tha,duniya me aana jana to rehetahi hai,lekin mai unko kabhi bhi bhul nahi sakti,ishwar unki aatma ko shanti de,” posted Lata on the micro-blogging site.
Politicians saddened by Joshi’s demise
Not only, the Bollywood was deeply aggrieved by his demise, even President Pratibha Patel and Prime Minster Manmohan Singh were saddened of losing a great connoisseur of music.
Talking about Bharat Ratna recipient Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Prime Minster said, “His rendering of the song "Mile Sur Mera Tumhara" on the theme of national integration is etched in the popular consciousness.
"To honour his exceptional musical talents and his success in reviving a sacred classical tradition among the people, the country bestowed its highest national honour, the Bharat Ratna on him in 2008.”
It’s learnt that Joshi died as he had been suffering from age old ailments. From last Saturday his condition became unstable, after having been in hospital for nearly a month.
Despite all efforts by doctors, Joshi died at 8 am, this morning.
Pandit Joshi’s last rites performed
The fans who swelled up to see the last rites of the renowned vocalist joined the journey from his house to the cremation ground in Vaikunth crematorium.
The Indian vocalist was cremated with state honors and his music and bhajans were played during the last rites.
