1. Robot:
South mega-star Rajinikanth’s ‘Robot’ (titled ‘Enthiran’ in Tamil) turned out to be a true winner at the box-office this year. The film was made with an astounding budget of Rs. 162 crore.
On Oct. 1, 2010, ‘Robot’ released on 2,253 screens across the world and amazingly by the end of first weekend grossed Rs. 62 crore from all its versions. The total revenue of the film turned out to be Rs. 250 crore.
Not just audience, but even critics highly praised the film and Rajinikanth’s performance in ‘Robot’. Some even said that it was a film that only Rajinikanth could have done.
2. Raavan:
‘Raavan’, the most ambitious project of critically acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam till date, was made with a total budget of Rs. 100 crore and was the second most expensive film of 2010.
The film boosted of casting Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Vikram in main lead. Since it was Ratnam’s film, it was highly awaited by critics and audience. However, it failed to impress both and barely managed to gross Rs. 29.50 crore.
Indian trade analysts declared the film as flop. Even international film critics gave it thumbs down due to its poor story and slow pace.
3. Guzaarish:
Veteran filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Guzaarish’ was among the highly-awaited films of the year, due to factors like high-profile filmmaker, lead star cast, Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai, and also because of its controversial subject of mercy-killing.
‘Guzaarish’ made its grand entry in theatres on Nov. 19, 2010, but unfortunately, despite being made brilliantly, it failed to woo the cine-goers. It was made with a staggering budget of 75 crore, but barely managed to garner Rs. 30 crore.
However, critics went gaga over the film and the lead actors performance.
4. Kites:
‘Kites’ was among the most hyped film of 2010. The film that was made in two languages, Hindi and English, featured Hrithik Roshan and Mexican actress, Barbara Mori in the main lead.
‘Kites’ was aggressively marketed in India and abroad, and due to this, the movie received amazing response on May 21.
However, soon market started buzzing with reports that the film is slow and presence of a lot of Spanish and English dialogues with sub-titles is playing spoil sport with the audience mood.
Not only Indian audiences gave ‘Kites’ a thumbs down, but critics also thoroughly criticized ‘Kites’. Though it did manage some praises from international media circuit, overall, it failed to live up to the hype created around it, before release.
Interestingly, ‘Kites’ was made with a budget of Rs. 60 crore, but barely managed to glean Rs. 65 crore.
5. Tees Maar Khan:
Farah Khan’s Akshay Kumar starrer comedy flick, ‘Tees Maar Khan’ was released on Dec. 24, 2010, and managed to get 100 percent opening at almost all the multiplexes across nation.
Made on a budegt of 50 crore, TMK got the second biggest opening day grosser after ‘Dabangg’. Though the film only got negative reviews from film critics, it garnered Rs. 26.50 crore in first two days only.

Dabangg:
Salman Khan-Sonakshi Sinha starrer ‘Dabangg’, the blockbuster hit of 2010, was made on a total budget of Rs. 42 crore.
On Sep.10, ‘Dabangg’ received an overwhelming response at the box-office and broke the opening day collection record of the blockbuster film ‘3 Idiots’.
Even in the overseas market, the film received a positive response. It grossed a total revenue of Rs. 212 crore worldwide.
Anjaana Anjaani:
Siddhartha Anand’s ‘Anjaana Anjaani’, starring Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor, was released on Oct. 1.
The film was a love story and was made with a budget of Rs. 43 crore. As per the trade analysts, the film successfully managed to recover its cost, but was an average grosser.
Unfortunately, the film only managed to get negative reviews from critics, though, everyone appreciated Priyanka and Ranbir’s performance, and their chemistry was unavoidable.
Golmaal 3:
It would not be wrong to say that Rohit Shetty’s third installment of ‘Golmaal’ series, ‘Golmaal 3’ released on Nov. 5 was a total paisa vasool film.
The film was made on a budget of Rs. 40 crore and grossed Rs. 103.5 crore. Though audience liked the film, it got mixed reviews from critics.
