“Actually, when people come to you with the line that shedding of inhibitions is the demand of a particular screen role, they are actually pandering to the public demand. Words like demand of the role or the character are all trash,” said the 26-year old actress, who has been around in the industry for over five years now, however, has failed to carve a niche for herself.
Tanushree had successfully won the Femina Miss India Universe title in 2004, but could not win the international title of “Miss Universe 2004.”
Afterwards just like any other beauty pageant winner, Tanushree too jumped into Bollywood and even managed to get recognition when her film 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne' did well on box office.
Even her second film 'Chocolate' in 2005 was expected to do good but it turned out to be an average film. And after few more flops, Tanushree’s career started going downhill.
Success/failure of films not in my hands
Tanushree, who has no intention to shed her inhibitions onscreen for any film anytime soon, said that her primary work is to pick a good film and give her 100 percent. But once the film is complete and hits theatres, its fate depends on audiences’ response.
“To what extent a film works is beyond me. It’s my responsibility to sign good films so as to make sure that people come to watch. But some movies work, some don't,” said Tanushree, when asked why her movies are not doing well at the box-office.
Tanushree has done total 14 films till date, which includes one Tamil and one Telugu movie, however, except for ‘Dhol’ and 'Bhagam Bhag' all her films have failed to impress the audience.
Time to experiment?
Tanushree, who has worked in almost all sorts of genres till date, now wants to try something new.
She revealed that she always wanted to work in a Bengali film and if given a chance would like to do a literature-based Bengali film. Musical and historical films are also on her list.
However, concentrating on reviving her sinking career might turn out to be a better option.
