Box-office report: 'Break Ke Baad' performs below average

Disappointment at the box-office continued after the debacle of 'Action Replayy' and 'Guzaarish', and now, 'Break Ke Baad' opened to below average response all over.

BKB performed better (read at par) at high end multiplexes (i.e. PVR Ambience Gurgaon) where occupancy was 40 percent, but otherwise, the scene is not looking good (in other multiplexes occupancy was as low as 15 to 20 percent) for this Imran-Deepika starrer.

Expectations were high especially after the success of Imran’s last outing 'I Hate Luv Storys', which was a hit.

Now business can improve in urban centres over weekend, but going by the reviews and initial public reaction, it seems that it lacks the spark to sustain over a week.

Other releases
'Allah Ke Banday' opened to poor response (as occupancy was 10 to 15 percent). The dark theme of the film failed to appeal urban audience understandably, but surprisingly, it failed miserably in smaller towns and single screens too, where generally this genre performs well.

Now, will it perform on weekdays is something yet to be known.

'Khuda Kasam', starring Sunny Deol and Tabu, released yesterday and sank without notice.

It was delayed by few months as there were hardly any takers (read distributors) for it. This action film received 10 to 15 percent response in single screens. Occupancy rate was 10 to 15 percent in Mumbai city, while places in Rajasthan and Bihar were 25-30 percent.

Performance by earlier releases
'Guzaarish' had a poor first week of around 22 crore nett. The film did not start well, while collections dropped on weekdays and collections are also low on the 8th day. Now, it's a certain loss making venture for producers and distributors.

'Golmaal 3' is still doing good business with around 8 crore nett in its third week, takings its three week total to 102 crore nett.

Believe it or not, 'Golmaal 3' is now the only fourth film to cross 100 crore barrier, after the top three flicks, '3 Idiots', 'Ghajini' and 'Dabangg'.

Maybe movies would be better received if they weren't either copy-pastes from foreign movies or absolutely senseless. Sure, senseless movies are good to watch at times, and yes, it's not like good movies aren't made. But a lot of movies that get a lot of publicity are like that.

BKB fails to take off cause of the poor script.. as such the first half is full of clever dialogues.. and good performances by Deepika and Imran...!...

Yes, Golmaal 3 is worthwhile is guess. Excellent research though. Waiting for your next article
