“I am the lowest paid star. I have demolished the term, ‘actors’ remuneration,” quipped Akshay when asked about the huge sums reportedly charged by him for his films.
The actor, who started his career as an action hero and later moved on to comedies, added that he gets paid for his hard work just like everybody else and does not believe in asking for what he does not deserve.
Comedy flavor of the season
As the interview progressed, Akshay revealed the reason why he is not doing action movies.
As per Akshay, people face enough depression in their everyday life and want to unwind at the end of hectic day and comedy films are best to do so.
“I think people have had enough of depression in their life. Everyone, especially people who are paying 200 to 300 Rs of money to watch a film, want entertainment.
"There should be comedy with a sensible storyline and good music and it will work and that’s what I am doing,” said the actor.
However, he revealed that he has not completely abandoned the idea of doing an action film as he’s thinking about starting one next year and will be announcing it soon.
Reason behind working with flop filmmakers?
In the industry where everyone only wants to work with the most successful people/team, Akshay has been seen working with filmmakers, whose films continue to bomb on box office.
When asked if he does so for the sake of friendship, the actor replied “It’s not an emotional thing as one would like to believe.”
He added, he reads the script first and then decides whether to select it or not.
“Hits and flops are a part of everyone’s career and I don’t judge anyone on those grounds. I don’t have chamchas around me suggesting flicks. I listen to everyone but at the end of the day I take my own decisions,” said the actor.
