Black out of Colors sans prior notice against TRAI guidelines

Latest reports state that sudden black out of Colors channel for more than 24 hours without intimating the channel has led to violation of TRAI guidelines.

In a conversation with The Times Of India, Shiv Sena executive President Uddhav Thackeray said that channel's officials approached the party for a compromise but they have not yet decided on the contestants from Pakistan.

Clarifying the reason behind the protests by Shiv Sena, Uddhav commented, “Our opposition is to Pakistani artistes in the programme and not to Colors.”

TRAI guidelines violated
As per the TRAI guidelines, it is imperative for a cable operator to give a notice in newspapers three weeks earlier regarding the disconnection of the channel to protect the interests of the consumers. However, nothing was done before.

Reportedly, some of the cable operators did so under the fear of threats from Sena, while others did as per their willingness.

The vice-president of Cable Operators Distributors Association, Ravi Singh said, “It was not an official call. But I do agree that there is a violation because no notice and reason was given for taking the channel off the air.”

Colors officials worried about TRPs
Undoubtedly, TRPs are pivotal for a channel. Higher the TRPs, higher will be their profitability.

Colors is currently worried about the black out, as it might in turn lowering the channel's TRP rating.

Nearly, 15 percent of the TRP is through 'Bigg Boss 4'.

It is yet not clear if reason behind the protest is Pakistani contestants on the show, as there are many shows on Indian television where Pakistani thespians participate.

However, there were no such protests against them. So, why Colors?
