Sony Entertainment gets record breaking TVRs because of ‘3 Idiots’

The comedy flick ‘3 Idiots’ not just took the box-office by a storm when it released last year, but as per trade analysts reports, the movie got Sony Entertainment channel record breaking television viewer ratings (TVRs) last month when it was telecasted.


The film premiered for the first time on Sony on July 25 and went on to gather staggering 10.9 TVRs over 4.2 hours.

As per reports, the cumulative reach of the film on Sony channel was 30.5 percent, meaning every third Indian on July 25 evening decided to view the hit flick on Sony.

In layman’s term, some 39.1 million viewers watched the film.

“Such a record breaking viewership is a result of aggressive marketing and a never-seen-before presentation of a movie on television.

We celebrated an ‘All izz well’ week on the channel, wherein the theme of the movie was weaved across the existing programmes, making the premiere of ‘3 Idiots’ one of the most anticipated events on Indian television,” said Ajit Thakur, EVP and Business Head, Sony Entertainment Television.

With the help from the viewership gathered because of ‘3 Idiots’, Sony Entertainment captured third spot on the Hindi GEC (general entertainment channel) in India with 270 GPRs (gross point ratings).

Sony intend to keep its position on GEC
After acquiring the third place on GEC, biggest task ahead of Sony Entertainment is to maintain its position and as per company, they fully intend to do so.

As per Sony Entertainment Television business head Ajit Thakur, shows like ‘Indian Idol finale week’, ‘Boogie Woogie’, the new season of 'Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega' beginning Aug. 16 and 'KBC' will help channel to increase its popularity.
