Beyond all predictions, ‘Rajneeti’ enjoyed the second best opening, next to ‘3 idiots’.
Already finding itself in the elite class of super-opening films, ‘Rajneeti’ might overtake ‘Housefull’ and ‘My Name Is Khan’ to be the biggest money spinner of the year.
Directed by Prakash Jha, ‘Rajneeti’ has an impressive cast of Katrina Kaif, Ranbir Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Ajay Devgan, and Arjun Rampal.
Strong start for ‘Rajneeti’
The film opened to an excellent 85 percent plus occupancy across the country. The film was strong right from its first shows at multiplexes and single screens.
Despite the fact that the film opened in less screens, it had an astonishing start and earned Rs34 crores, with a worldwide gross of Rs62 crores in the opening weekend. ‘Raajneeti’ has obviously done well in the overseas market also.
In countries like Britain, U.S. and the Gulf region, the movie has done business worth $315,048, $916,446 and $500,000 respectively -- a phenomenal start for a film made at a budget of Rs 45 crore.
‘Rajneeti’ flies high
As bigger release like ‘kites’ crashed at the box office, ‘Rajneeti’, a political-thriller with a great content, provided a breather to the industry.
With a huge hype going in its favour, the film scores high with its perfect plot, powerful performances, music, and the right promotion. Regarded as a far superior film than ‘Kites’ and equally hailed by audiences and critics, ‘Rajneeti’ might continue its glorious run at the box office.
When compared with ‘Housefull’ or ‘My name is Khan’, which grossed around 70 crores at the box office, ‘Rajneeti’ might easily surpass its predecessors and become the biggest hit of 2010.
