IPL abruptly changes tunes, disgruntling bidders

The IPL chose to close the bidding at the last minute yesterday, which incidentally didn’t go down well with the buyers who were present at the auction. IPL chose to back peddle on its re-bid plan citing new rules.

Saif, Kareena and Atul Chordia disappointed at bidding
Venugopal Dhoot of the Videocon group, Atul Chordia, the Founder–Chairman of Panchshil Realty and Bollywood’s Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, have decided to cop-out of the bidding process for the Pune team, without any second thoughts about taking ownership on March 21st .

Responding to the question about the bid in a recent interview, Chordia stated, “There had been very good consortium between me, Saif, Kareena and Videocon. And the last eight days we have worked so hard on branding, merchandising, paper work, but today it’s been a wrong day for me.”

With the new set rules having been incorporated in the bidding process, the cancellation of the bid has disappointed Saif and Kareena.

Saif in dismay stated, “Yes, we were interested in buying the Pune team but the bidding process was cancelled and the rules were changed. Kareena and I had submitted our bid and there was one other person but Lalit (Modi) cancelled it. It would've been great if we could have bought the Pune team and entered the IPL as I love cricket too.”

IPL cancels bidding without giving any reason
Chordia is quite pesky about the way the IPL has deferred the tender procedure and its decision to issue a new one.

Peaked he conveyed that he was shocked that they just called off the bid without giving any reason.

Feeling distraught that even their legitimacy and completion of all the paperwork and fulfillment of all the conditions didn’t go well as planned, he stated, “If they didn’t want a stringent tender, why did they float one in the first place? Even on Saturday they said they were opening it on Sunday. The manner in which it was done was not at all sporting.”

Chordia supposedly didn’t refrain from commenting on the IPL’s decision on rebidding; he conveyed that if they didn’t want to open the tender then they could have cancelled it instead of opening plans for a rebid.

“When there were three bids, you could have opened it. The minimum valuation was $ 225 million, which is about Rs 1,100 crore. So we had definitely put at least Rs 1,100 crore,” a disgruntled Chordia responded.

He also conveyed that their partners had spent a whopping sum in order to fulfill all the requirements which is more than Rs 10 crore to get everything organized, but all that had gone in vain.
