Los Angeles, November 25 -- Summit Entertainment's vampire and werewolf movie "The Twilight Saga: New Moon” that hit theatres last weekend has created box-office history by receiving the third biggest opening till date.
With the movie earning pots of money, the cast and the crew are sure pleased as a punch. One wonders how much the cast gets to share in the booty.
Since Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have become A-listers now, for the magic they had transported in this movie, they deserve to be getting something phenomenal dollars.
And to watch these good looking actors, swooning women and teenagers are darting to the theaters to check them out in the vampire world.
It sure looks like the approaching Thanksgiving weekend will be a windfall weekend for Summit Entertainments, since schools are closing in for Thanksgiving; teenagers are bound to dash in straight to watch the movie.
The unusual box-office report for the last weekend showed that 'New Moon' brought in $140.7 million locally, and $118.1 million overseas. But according to the updated number given by the Los Angeles Times, the universal total for New Moon’s opening weekend is a massive $274.9 million, and the split between domestic and overseas now is $142.7 million and $142.8 million.
‘New Moon’ by now has benefited from this colossal financial success and broken countless records. What with its single day domestic tally of $72.7 million past Friday, this beat out the prior record of $67.2 million set by 'The Dark Knight' last year. The movie also broken another record by grabbing $26.3 million for its midnight screenings, which surpassed past summer's 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’s tally of $22.2 million.
The first chapter of Twilight saga had cost about $37 million and it has already snatched $383.8 million internationally, and the sequel is estimated to have cost up to $50 million. However, surprisingly, the movie has managed to get its money back five times in the opening weekend of its release itself.
Until now the movie is running in 25 countries, which means that there would be more cash rolling in. Further success for the movie is confirmed, if it keeps moving along for weeks to come.
But even if it does stop making money in the coming weeks, it’s still believed to be major success anyway.
